ARTIST STATEMENT

I see art as a universal language, a powerful medium to express and translate visually what cannot be conveyed otherwise.  I think of my artwork as a kaleidoscope, which enables me to see human behavior and nature in their many organic facets.  My work tends to focus on the interwoven cultural layers that I experience as a European in Busan, South Korea and Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Inspired by Asian, Polynesian and European histories, and by combining these elements in various visual layers my artwork tries to make visible the universality of human existence. Ever-accelerating technological progress alienates humans more and more from their traditional roots and environments.
